Mrs. OSINT Challenge 15

It has been a while since my last blog post, but today we have something fun to work on. We are going to be solving Challenge 15 of the Where in the World is Mrs. OSINT? series. We have some catching up to do, but this challenge was a great one to return with.

I hope you enjoy following along with this investigation as much as I enjoyed solving it. With that, let’s get started.

Challenge 15

Tasks:

  1. Location – Provide the exact coordinates, city, and country where the building is located.
  2. Building Name – What is the official name of this building?
  3. Building Type – Is it residential, historic, religious, or something else?
  4. Current Color – What is the building’s color today? (Provide evidence)
  5. Timeline – Has the building’s color or exterior changed over time? If yes, when?
  6. Key Clues – List two visible clues that helped you identify the location (architecture, surroundings, vegetation, lighting, etc.).

To solve this challenge, we were provided with two images. Let’s begin with the first one.

The first image shows what appears to be a pink church in the background, possibly with a bell tower on the right side. In the foreground, there are several palm trees, suggesting the location is likely in a warm or tropical climate.

The building’s distinctive color and architectural style initially made me think this could be an easy reverse image search. Which is probably why the challenge image was intentionally taken from a side angle rather than directly from the front.

A pink building surrounded by palm trees and greenery, with a white fence and a clear blue sky.

As expected, the reverse image search was not very useful. Most of the results were simply other pink churches that did not match our target building. With no strong lead from the first image, I moved on to the second one.

This time, we are given a black and white image showing the front of the building, including the bell tower. Several details stand out immediately: a garden bed in front of the entrance, a staircase leading up to the church, a circular window above the doorway, and an adjacent structure on the right side.

Exterior view of a white historic church with Gothic architectural features, surrounded by foliage and a fence.

A reverse image search on this second image produced much better results. One result showed a white church with the same architectural features we identified earlier. Although the color differed, the structure appeared to match closely enough to investigate further.

The image was titled Santa María de Guadalupe Parish in the town of Cócorit.

I copied the name into Google Maps and checked Street View. To my surprise, the location matched perfectly, including the pink exterior seen in the original challenge image.

Looking through historical Google Maps imagery revealed that the church was still painted white in 2023. By 2024, however, it had been repainted pink, matching the appearance shown in the challenge. The church also remained pink in imagery captured in March 2026.

I could not find an official website for the church, but a quick Google search led me to the Facebook page Parroquia Santa María de Guadalupe, Cócorit. Photos posted there confirm that the church was still painted pink as of March 28, 2026, providing a second source of verification.

Solutions

  1. Location – 27°34’32.99″N 109°57’32.92″W, Cocorit, Sonora, Mexico
  2. Building Name – Guadalupe Church / Iglesia Santa María de Guadalupe
  3. Building Type – Religious
  4. Current Color – Pink
  5. Timeline – White through 2023; repainted pink by 2024 and remains pink as of 2026
  6. Key Clues – Circular window, bell tower, garden bed, staircase, and distinctive front entrance architecture

The first image alone did not provide enough information to identify the church, and the reverse image search results were all incorrect. However, the second image introduced several architectural details that became critical in narrowing down the search.

The circular window, staircase, bell tower, and front garden layout all helped confirm the match once the correct church was found. Historical Google Maps imagery also played an important role by revealing that the building had changed color relatively recently.

By combining multiple sources, including Street View imagery and social media photographs, we were able to confidently confirm both the location and current appearance of the building.

I hope you enjoyed following along with today’s investigation. If you want to continue the challenge yourself, I highly recommend visiting the Mrs. OSINT website and attempting the bonus question for Challenge 15.

See you on the next one!
